Introduction to Open Standard Ecosystem Framework

Since 2013, we have been working towards scaling innovation entrepreneurship by empowering ecosystem development with common framework, global best practises and digital transformation for systematic and data-driven development as a way to democratize entrepreneurship and increase volume of innovation to face and fix all type of societal challenges with the ultimate aim of contributing to create a better world for everyone.

We have been always releasing a full library of resources related to ecosystem development containing our learnings, knowledge and expertise along the journey under creative commons license to disseminate and share as much as possible but also with the aim to open direct conversations and relationships with those taking the role of ecosystem builders and developers in order to get to know their main challenges, needs, priorities, issues, etc.

We Enable. You operate

We have observed and validated from the global markets from last five years that there is a clear bigger jump from many parts of the world, how they are aligning themselves with what they see needed to be developed and how and what we have to offer and how we are providing it.

The main demanded dimensions to deploy and deliver an open standard ecosystem framework are as follow:
  • Transferability model to be developed, adapted and shared to accelerate pace of development and growth
  • Digitalisation to increase connectedness within and between ecosystems
  • Real-time data and KPIs for monitoring, measuring, benchmarking and promoting
  • Protect user data rights to strengthen and unify data protection for individuals

By reimagining the models, the processes and the way we work, we can create something we call frictionless ecosystem: fully open, connected and scalable ecosystem to serve all ecosystem players and stakeholders as a platform.

Startup Commons has been actively listening to the market to become the global leading entity to develop and deliver the open, common and global ecosystem standards for data models and APIs. This essentially means that any business creator, support provider, ecosystem operator, financier or corporate will have unlimited opportunities by accessing global pool of resources (talent, services, data, businesses, investments, etc.) and creating data monetisation opportunities  for data owners.

It offers Ecosystem API's, Circle Pass user accounts & API's for single sign-on and user data portability, API documentation, data models and data sharing principles to develop connected applications for startup ecosystems. EcosystemOS is designed for Ecosystem Operators especially considering public sector organizations (e.g. national, regional and municipal development agencies) and private startup services that operate startup and entrepreneurship ecosystems and offer services to startups, investors, and other stakeholders.

It also enables opportunities to third party providers by connecting their own applications by using standardised data models, APIs and documentation to provide digital services to different ecosystem users and players.

About Startup Commons

Startup Commons is the global custodian of open standard ecosystem framework for data models and APIs and maintains the global community of open ecosystem operators, which provides a “whitelist” of operators able to operate in the global open standardised ecosystem.

Startup Commons is responsible for:
  • Connectivity for all ecosystem levels/functions
  • Best practises & software
  • Data Models
  • API’s
  • Documentation
  • Creating Global Standards
  • Data monetization models
  • Learnings

About the guidelines

These guidelines are owned and administered by Startup Commons. The guidelines describe and provide direction on the roles and responsibilities of open standard ecosystem stakeholders.

The guidelines cover:
  • Open standard ecosystem stakeholders
  • The Open Standard Ecosystem Data Protection
  • The Open Standard Content Modeling
  • How to get started
  • Glossary of Terms

Open Standard Ecosystem Stakeholders

The Open Standard Ecosystem Framework refers to all the elements that facilitate the operation of Open standard ecosystem. This includes the data model and API Standards, the governance, systems, processes, security and procedures used to support open standard ecosystem stakeholders:
  • Ecosystem Operators
  • Support Providers
  • Business creators
  • Financiers
  • Corporates
  • API Provider
  • API user
  • Startup Commons

The Open Standard Ecosystem Data Protection

The Open Standard Ecosystem Data Protection is EU compliance and aligned with GDPR. The primary objectives of the GDPR are to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify regulations for international businesses by unifying the requirements for data protection across the EU.

The spirit of the GDPR is to enable users to have better practical rights to control their data. To have their data for them, to have it removed, make it portable between services etc. However users need tools to be able to do so AND there needs to be connections between services and these tools build OR it will not be very practical for user or services, and therefore benefits would be very limited.

With good tools and connectivity, the data management, control and flow can be real time, automated and multidirectional between services, while also being GDPR compliant and really enforcing the spit of the regulation.

The Circle Pass Global User Account is a service to enable managing users data and enable user control and use of their data by their terms, not a central data storage. Users getting control of data, does not mean that underlying data would need to be stored in one place. The data can be stored in various ways and formats, with various levels of security and encryption to multiple different storage locations depending on user's preference. Including cloud services by private companies, government or third sector organizations, blockchain, personal computers or servers, smartphone or any combinations of these.

Beyond using Circle Pass global account, users can give access to their data storages directly without Circle Pass service in between (ie. another Global User Account provider or any other means).

User can stop using Circle Pass at any point, without losing any of their data or transaction history while having used Circle Pass account and service.

As users data managing service provider, Circle Pass is build in the way all future services should be build, where we ask the rights and access to users data only if and when need, and only at level needed to provide the service in question, just like any other users service connected to their account.

The Open Standard Content Modeling

What is content modeling
According to content strategist Rachel Lovinger, a content model documents all the different types of content you will have for a given project. It contains detailed definitions of each content type’s elements and their relationships to each other

Why is content modeling so important
The content model both influences and is influenced by the work of several other disciplines. A content model helps clarify requirements and encourages collaboration between the designers, the developers creating the CMS, and the content creators.
